What to do in Brisbane

There is so much to explore in the city of Brisbane, from riverside precincts with acclaimed dining and entertainment, to lush parklands, urban villages, museums and art galleries.

Climb to the top of the Story Bridge for 360-degree views of the city before exploring Brisbane’s booming craft beer scene and bustling café culture.

Head to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to cuddle a koala (around 20 minutes drive south-west of the City) or take the City Cat ferry ride up the Brisbane River. Save on Brisbane attractions and experiences by booking your tickets here.

Where to stay in Brisbane

First time in a campervan? We recommend spending your first night close by at the Brisbane Holiday Village so you can get to know your new home on wheels and how to use it while still in close proximity to the branch.

You can plan where to stay in advance and  book a campground here or download our free ApolloConnect app to search and book holiday parks and campgrounds throughout your journey.

Popular places to visit north of Brisbane

Brisbane is a convenient location to start exploring what is often referred to as the sunshine state, Queensland. Queensland is famous for its long sandy beaches, rainforest, reef, islands and tropics. In just an hour to two north from Brisbane you could be eating fish and chips at a Surf Club looking out over one of the Sunshine Coast beaches or meandering through the beautiful hinterland with views of the Glass House Mountains. Australia Zoo is located on the Sunshine Coast and is Australia’s most famous zoo, bringing to life the iconic legacy of Steve Irwin.

Its just a 4 hour drive north from Brisbane to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, where you can stay at seaside towns, and get up close to tropical fish, turtles and manta rays. Queensland has some amazing fresh local produce and seafood.

Experience the Outback

Brisbane is also a good starting point if you are keen to head north west to experience authentic country hospitality in Outback Queensland  - here you’ll find everything from the world’s largest Australian dinosaur fossil collection to dry desert, waterways, sandstone gorges and more than 20 National Parks.

Pacific Coast Way

A Queensland drive holiday really is the best way to explore Queensland at your own pace, whether you rent a motorhome for a comfortable coastal drive or hire a four-wheel drive for an off-road adventure. We recommend the Pacific Coast Way for a must-do drive along the Queensland coast.  Allow plenty of time to appreciate coastal towns, farming regions, country pubs, sandy beaches and waterfalls.

Head south to the Gold Coast and Byron Bay

Head south from Brisbane in your camper towards the Gold Coast for world-class beaches and a vibrant nightlife. Take a surfing lesson at Surfers Paradise or hold on as you ride the rollercoasters at one the Gold Coast’s famous theme parks. In the hinterland you’ll find vineyards, waterfalls, bushwalking trails and local artists and craftspeople selling their wares.

Heading further south, you can be in New South Wales in less than two hours from the Apollo Brisbane Branch.  Bruswick Heads, Byron Bay and Ballina are well-known areas loved by locals and tourists, with some great campgrounds by rivers and lakes with family friendly facilities.

The Legendary Pacific Coast Drive will take you from Tweed Heads via Coffs Harbour, South West Rocks, Port Stephens and through to Sydney. This drive will take you through green hinterland featuring macadamia farms and banana plantations, to national parks and fantastic surf beaches.
